ME, MYSELF & I …

I have never been the best with introductions, especially when it comes to introducing myself! However I want you all to know all about me, my blog and my life, so here it goes!

Who am I?

I often find myself asking this question and if I’m being honest I still haven’t found a complete answer, but let me tell you what I do know. I am a highly motivated, energetic and adaptable individual with experience working in fast-paced, pressure-driven environments with high expectations. I have experience as a marketing liaison with a demonstrated history of working in the marketing and advertising industry and have also started my own consulting firm. I have had the incredible opportunity throughout my undergraduate degree to study at an array of tertiary institutions including IESEG in Paris, Conde Nast College in London, the University of Sydney and I will be graduating from the University of Wollongong at the end of this year with a Bachelor of Communications and Media Studies majoring in marketing.

Some more about me? I have celiac disease which has inadvertently made me OBSESSED with health food. I love the ocean, travelling, literature, the arts, fashion is my entire being and I am a coffee addict and proud!

Something I have picked up on throughout uni has been tutors and lecturer’s obsession with “3 FUN FACTS”. So in the spirit of trying to get you guys to get to know me, here it goes …

  • I took my first steps in Zimbabwe
  • I am a dual citizen, holding both an Australian and American passport
  • I am truly, undeniably, head over heels in love with fashion

You have to love some good old fashion cliches!

By this point in time (due to my total lack of explanation) a lot of you may be asking why I named this blog “I Found Myself In Wonderland”. So in order to satisfy peoples curiosities, I will now provide a little bit of context as to why I chose the name I did.

To me “I Found Myself In Wonderland” is a double entendre. I have found myself personally associating with Alice from Lewis Carroll’s, ‘Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland’ a lot recently.

For Alice when she tumbled down the rabbit hole she found herself in Wonderland, a bizarre new world, like nothing she had ever experienced before – this is a situation I am currently experiencing as I start this new part of my life in University.

When faced with the discovery of this new world (Wonderland) Alice’s own identity was called into question, with Alice constantly asking herself “who in the world am I?”. It was through this constant questioning and being faced with new experiences and situations that Alice figured out who she was. Alice literally found herself (identity) in Wonderland. For me, life after school and starting University is completely new and is like another world in comparison to past experiences. However, it is in this light that, for the first time in my life, I feel as though I have found myself and my calling.

So now comes the BIG question, what will I be blogging about?

Well, to continue this Alice in Wonderland theme, I will be exploring the never-ending ‘rabbit hole’ of media. More specifically I’ll be commenting on the media issues and theories that I will be encountering as I go along, exploring ideas and sharing what I have found. I want to use this platform to discuss important and often uncomfortable issues that are prevalent in society today in an uninhibited or bias way.

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT!

That’s just a little bit about me and how ‘I Found Myself In Wonderland’ came to be. (my sincerest apologies for the rhyme, it was very much unintended).

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my blog and being interested enough to read a bit about me, myself and I.

So down and down the rabbit hole I go …
